Due to the nature of our job the Animal Control Officers are frequently out of the office assisting the community.

PPet Lost?  What Should You Do?

If your pet is lost do not panic but do not delay assuming that your pet will find it's way home to safety.

Follow these steps to become active in locating your pet:

  • Call the animal control authority in your area. In Columbus that number is 402-564-8839.  Animal Control Officer work through the police department and pick up stray animals. Call them every two days to see if they have updated information that will assist you.

  •  Search your Neighborhood or area where your pet was lost and let people know that you have lost your pet.

  •  Contact your area shelters.  . Go to the shelter and do not just phone in EVERY DAY, animals look differently to many people. Ask the shelter to take a missing animal report with your pet's information.

  • Contact all local veterinary offices, pet groomers, boarding facilities and pet supply centers. They need a photo and description of your pet and contact information for you.

  •  Place ads with local media. Many will offer no charge to list your lost pet information on their web site, radio station or local newspaper.

  •  Watch found ads in your local papers. The animal may be located by a person who keeps the pet in hopes of finding the owner.

  •  Place missing pet signs up all over your community. This is vital to extending the information of your lost pet into the community.
